Bajpe Dalit girl molestation case: Prime accused goes missing, another punishedDec 4 2013 8:11PM
Mangalore: The Dakshina Kannada District Second Sessions Court, Mangalore has awarded seven years of rigorous punishment and a fine of Rs 10,000 to Dinesh Amin (27) in connection with the molestation of a minor girl in Bajpe.
The verdict was announced on Wednesday, December 4. Dinesh Amin is the second accused in the case while the prime accused Manoj Shetty (33) is still at large.
On 24 June 2011, Manoj Shetty (33), an auto driver and prime accused in this case, offered lift to a school going Dalit girl (12) in his auto. He then took her to his rented house located in Kaudooru near Bajpe and took advantage of her. He then called his friend Dinesh (also an auto-rickshaw driver) and let him derive sexual pleasure from her. The culprits then threatened the girl that she would be killed if she revealed the incident.
However a case was registered against the duo at Bajpe police station. The case was investigated by Puttamadhaya, Panambur ACP.
Prime accused untraceble
Though Manoj, was granted bail by the High Court he absconded at the last minute. As Dinesh had not applied for bail he was behind the bars.
